It runs a family activity, suitable for children, on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon most weekends throughout the year. This award winning Victorian mining museum is located in the centre of the North Pennines. Visitors over the age of four can take a mine tour. The museum has a range of activities for families, including an adventure play area, woodland walks, picnic areas, museum explorer backpacks, interactive resources and orienteering trails. The museum holds regular family events in the school holidays. During term time it hosts a weekly toddler group and also an after school club for children aged between 7-12 years.
